Last night our sweet boy turned into an angry little man. It was right before skating and for a time it seemed we’d have to cancel. But a time out and the prospect of skating with Papa seemed to clear up. That is until the middle of the night when he woke up screaming that he was in pain. He said his Ears hurt. Tylenol helped but only for a little while before he was up again. We managed to get him through the night and in the morning he just wasn’t himself. He spent most of the day in bed, or complaining about the pain. He also ran a fever, so it was off to the Kids Clinic at St Joes. The wait wasn’t to bad and the doctor was great with Jacob. It turns out to be a double ear infection. So Antibiotics for 7 days and he should be better. It’s been a while since we had an ear infection. This is the first time that he could express the pain. It’s hard to be a parent and have your child tell you he’s hurting and even where he is hurting but not be able to really do anything. Hopefully the drugs will clear it up fast.

Today was Skating day, so Jacob and his Papa strapped on there skates and headed out on to the ice. Watching Jacob on the ice is quite an experience. He really gets it. He spent almost the entire lesson on his feet, skating around. At one point he skated away from Danny and Joined one of the other groups on the ice to do there lesson. Which was practicing turning around and working on balance. He did very well with the lessons, though he’s still having trouble standing up on his own. I’m sure he’ll get that soon.

Today was Violet’s one year appointment at the doctors. It included to shots. It’s the first time she’s take them in her arms. The doctor thinks she’s growing just fine. Though she’s slowed a little. Today she came in at 19lbs and around 29.5 Inches long. We’re a little worried that our little cupcake may be allergic to Peanuts, she has had some reactions after getting into Jacob’s Peanut Butter Sandwiches. The doctor is sending her for tests to be sure but prescribed an epinephrine injection, just in case. And of course Peanut Butter is still bannedd from our house. All and all our little angel is doing well and growing up just to fast…

Today was a day for Melissa and I to relax and enjoy one of our Christmas presents. Tickets to Rent and a gift card to Bâton Rouge. The show was at 1, and it was great. It’s the second time Melissa and I have got tickets for Rent. The first time was the Canadian Tour of Rent and though we enjoyed it some of the casting didn’t work for us. This time it was the Rent The Broadway Tour, with a number of actors who did the show on Broadway, including to of the original cast. It was a much better show.
Dinner afterwords was great, a great cap to a great afternoon and worked out to be a great way to relax after all the hard work we had putting together Violet’s birthday. Of course going to a show like that makes us wish we could get out to more of them. We’re hoping to make getting out to the theatre more then a bi-yearly event. Currently there are 3 shows we really want to come back to Toronto so that we can see them, Wicked, Les Misérables and Avenue Q.

Today we celebrated Violets birthday with friends and family. Throughout the day I took a ton of pictures but when I sat down to choose one for my Project 365 shot it was this moment after the party when Jacob was pulling Violet in his wagon that I thought captured the day for me. There is a number of things that I like about this picture. The joy in Jacobs face as he pulls around his little sister is priceless but the biggest is that he got that wagon for his first birthday. I remember pulling him around on that day and how much fun he had. Now it was his turn.

When Jacob started Pre-School at the beginning of the month, I new he’d be doing a lot of art projects at school. Today the first batch was sent home. It’s amazing the amount of stuff he’s done in such a short time. Its interesting to see how different some of it is. What’s more when I asked Jacob about it he describe how he did some of them, I could get which day each piece was done but he clearly remembered doing them.

Tonight I captured Jacob as he sat at my desk doing computer time. He was very excited to to play Caillou on PBSKids.org. He’s still a little unsure with the mouse, but he tries. Most of the time I control the mouse to where he points to. I’m thinking I’m going to have to work on his mouse skills, but to help with that I’m going to pick up a kids mouse. Something better suited for his small hands.
Today was Violet’s first birthday. We’re doing a bit of a party on Saturday, but wanted to do something to recognize the day, so we picked up a cake and a few close family came over and we celebrated. Violet loved her first cake. She reached right for it and grabbed a handful of icing. It was nice laid back evening, though I still can’t believe my little girl is one.

Heading home I snapped a picture of a subway as it pulled into the station. I had been thinking of taking a picture of a train for a couple of days now, but I always envisioned the picture to be of the front as it came into the station. As It’s not the picture I got, I was just pulling the camera out when the train came thundering into the station. I thought about waiting for another train/day to take the picture. Instead I snapped this one. It’s strange how It worked out, just before I took the picture the last person on the platform disappeared up the escalator. Leaving me with a nice shot of just the train and the deserted platform. A rare sight at 10 to 6 on a week night.
Today when Melissa left to go shopping with her mom I hoped to get some chores done around the house. After all it was Nap time for the kids. I expected the challenge to be Jacob, but it turned out that Violet was the one who refused to nap. So I had an unexpected afternoon with Violet. I tried to play some games with her and figured while I was at it I’d see if she would take water in her sippy cup. She likes cups, she tries to drink from any cup she see, so we have been debating whether we should bother with a sippy cup at all. Today I filled her cup with some water and let her have a go with it. It was hit and miss. At times she would play with it, others she tried to drink from it. Watching her I new what I wanted for today’s picture.
