Today we have a follow-up to last weeks picture of me making coffee with a kettle and my broken coffee maker. Our picture is of our shiny new coffee maker my mom surprised me with last night. One interesting thought about this coffee maker is that it continues a tradition I hadn’t realised I’d started. I have never bought my own coffee maker. I’ve had coffee makers since before I moved out from my mom’s house but to this day I haven’t bought a single one.

Project 365-352: Christmas with Family
Today we hosted a small Christmas Dinner with Protoulis family. We had a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It was a great to have the four kids running around the place, though at times they could get a little loud. Its evenings like this with family that will make for great traditions we can share with our kids in the years to come.
Project 365-351: Decorating
Today Jacob and Violet decorated the tree, well Jacob put on the ornaments and Violet took them off. Of course they needed a little help with the higher ornaments.
Project 365-350: Huron Carol
Tonight was Jacob’s first ever Christmas Concert at school. I was really impressed with how well the whole class preformed. Only problem is that right at the beginning of the performance one of Jacob’s classmates stood in front of him blocking him from my cameras for most of the show. I should have got up and tried to get a better angle, but I didn’t want to miss it and taking 2 videos and stills was a little tricky. It was a fun evening even after watching all the other grades in his school perform.
Project 365-349: Speeding along
Todays picture was taken as I spend along the Gardiner Expressway. With the snow on the ground it makes for a nice picture, though I had hopped to catch more of the Sunnyside Pavilion in the shot.
Project 365-348: Allergy Testing
Today Jacob had a visit to the allergists, the doctors wanted to see if his asthma was caused by an allergy. I’m glad to say that the tests came back negative, so even though both his parents and little sister have allergies of varying severity, Jacob has none. I’m not sure what that means for his asthma but at least we know he’ll be saved from the annoyance of seasonal allergies.
Project 365-347: Chicken Pox?
Today Jacob announced. To his substitute teach that he had Chicken Pox. This of course isn’t TRUE, if he had them we’d never have sent him to school. What he does have 2 spider bites (not the first time he’s had them, the first time was in the summer and we freaked out about them). Today before school Melissa was talking on the phone with a friend talking about the kids in Jacob’s school who does have Chicken Pox. I guess kit goes to show you that little ears are always listening.
What I don’t understand is that when Melissa picked him up the teacher pulled her inside and said, Jacob said he had chicken pox, and that he was sent to the office and they believed it to be Chicken pox. Melissa assured them they weren’t but if it were or if they thought they were shouldn’t they have sent him home?
Project 365-346: Coffee… Fail?
I woke up this morning to find that tragedy bad struck, my coffee maker would not make coffee. It took my coffee deprived mind to process what to do. I considered a run out to get a new coffee maker but that’d just have been silly. I went old school on the problem and with boiling water and patience I made my pot. It was such a random moment I thought I’d take a break from the Christmas pictures and use it for my photo today.
Project 365-345: Lining up
Today was a day of shopping for Melissa and Me. Uncle Jimmy watched the kids and we braved the malls trying to wrap up the rest of this years gifts. We started early and managed to beat the crowds for most of the day, though by the end it caught up with us. The line at Mastermind Toys snaked through the store and only grew as we waited in it. Luckily for us it reached it’s peek after we were already in it. We had a very productive day and it was nice to be able to spend the day with just the 2 of us.
Project 365-344: Ginerbread House
After the relative success we had at Halloween finding candies that were Peanut and Nut Free, I felt confident we wouldn’t have a problem during the Christmas season. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. It seems like it’s twice as hard to find. There are old stand buys like Hersey Kisses but the other day when going through some of the festive packs I saw that they may contain Shea, a nut. So now I find myself having to double-check everything. Luckily today we found something we’ve been looking for. We found a peanut free Gingerbread House Kit. Of course even it gave as a moment of pause, with the list of ingredients is a warning ‘Always Read Labels Carefully as not all Products are Made in a Peanut-Free Facility’. What does that mean? There is a big Peanut free label on the front and that warning on the back. What are we to do?
We think that the box has different packages of treats inside and that some of them are made in a facilities that also process nuts, but it’s damn confusing and though we are looking forward to having an afternoon building a Gingerbread House I’m also going to be going over everything that comes out of that box before I let Violet near it.
