As I was loading the family into the car tonight, before heading out to run a bunch of errands I snapped this picture. She really had fun standing on the driver’s seat holding on to the wheel. What is it with kids and the driver seat? Jacob loves sitting there pretending to drive to.

Project 365-077: Coffee
Today we take a look at what’s become my primary source of Caffeine. A while ago I decided to cut back on the Diet Coke. So instead of doing the smart thing and replacing the pop with water I replaced it with coffee. I’m now thinking about cutting back on the coffee, but it hasn’t got past the thinking stage. I just can’t envision getting up with out the nice hot cup of coffee to great me in the mornings.
Project 365-076: Jacob and the DS
It’s strange how a toy can be forgotten for weeks but when it makes an appearance again it becomes their it’s like it never left. Jacob DS has been put away for the last little while so I was interested to see his reaction when I pulled it out today. It was immediate and happy. While playing with it he found Mini games in his Mario 64 that I hadn’t seen before. Games that he can play better than the full game. Games that keep him interested. Of course we also got a glimpse of the future tonight, when I first brought it out, he was sitting in the living room and Violet was very interested in what he was doing. So after a few minutes of trying to play around her, he said ‘I’m going to play up in my room’ and off he went. I know it wont be the last time Jacob is off in his room playing video games.

Project 365-075: Is it Summer Yet
![]()
With the spring weather we’ve been having it’s harder and harder to spend the entire day inside. Today I was working from home and when I realised that we were out of milk, I had the perfect excuse take the kids out for a walk. On the way back we stopped at some of the local playgrounds. Violet really enjoyed the slide, and the swings.
It’s fun watching the excitement as in her face as Violet tries new things. I remember Jacob’s first summer and how much fun we had and I can’t wait till the weather is warmer and we can go on family outings to the Toronto Zoo, Ontario Place, or even just a walk by the lake.

Project 365-071: Pre-Laundry Day
On my way home from work today I made a mental checklist of the different things I wanted to do. One of them was get a few loads of laundry done. Unfortunately it didn’t work out. Came home, made dinner played with the kids, watched a movie with My Mother and Niece, checked on my farm and the night had run out. I did manage to pull a couple of loads together and they are waiting for tomorrow morning to head into the machine. It seems fitting that I’ll be spending a rainy Saturday doing laundry while the kids are off having fun with their Nana.
Project 365-070: Standing Watch
There is something special the moment your kids first see you. There face light up and the smile and call your name. It happens most nights when I get home, but it always seems more exuberant when it happens outside. In a place where they might not expect to see you. It’s happened to me twice this week, the first at the bus stop near our house, I got off the bus and walked towards home, only to be stopped by Melissa calling me from the park. She and the kids where out to met me. It happened again today, though today it was at Islington station. I was meeting my mom with the kids so that she could head downtown for a meeting. Hearing Jacob call out Daddy when he first saw me was priceless, thinking back on it now I wish I had thought to take a picture of it. Even Violet was all excited in the stroller as I walk up. These are the moments I cherish as a father.
Now about today’s picture, after meeting my mom and the kids at the subway we took the long way home. It included a Subway, Train and Streetcar with trips to 3 playgrounds. It was a great spring evening. Though by the end it was getting a little cold. The photo is of Jacob while I was talking to him about coming in. Of course he was having too much fun playing with other children to want to come in the first time I called. But with a little coaxing and the help of one of the kids he came in for dinner without incident.
Project 365-069: Snack Time
Today was another day at home with the kids for me. During the day I capture this moment of Violet and Jacob sharing an apple. I really do enjoy my days with the kids, but sometimes it’s hard to get everything you want done. I can’t help but feel I had a better system when I used to stay home with Jacob. Now is that because I had got into routine with him or is it just wishful thinking. I’m hoping after a couple more weeks the 3 of us will find a way to make these days work better.
Project 365-068: TTC Streetcar Tracking
When I was thinking about what to shoot for today’s photo two random things came together to almost make my choice for me. The first was a client visit, we got a call last week to from a client we’d all but written off, the second was an announcement by the TTC of the expanded availability of GPS based arrival times for most streetcar routes in the city. I spent some time looking at it before heading to the clients this afternoon. So when I got to Spadina station, where a the first trial installation of the GPS system is installed for the publics use, I thought great and snapped today’s picture. The only problem is now when I got to site to check out how it works, I only see two routes not the 5 or 6 I saw earlier. The service when it goes live will be a great help to the TTC riders of the city, I just hope we don’t have to long and that they will offer an open API so people can use the information in their own applications.
