Yesterday the family headed out on an adventure we’ve planned for weeks. We went to see The Polar Express in 3D at the Ontario Place Cineshere. But it wasn’t just the Movie, it was also a PJ party that promised a meet and great with Santa , Art’s and Crafts plus Hot Chocolate. We told Jacob weeks ago that we’d be going on a special adventure with Nana and Papa on the 17th but we wouldn’t tell him where. So as they dressed in their special PJs and climbed into the van they were excited, but a little unsure.
Our little reader spotted our destination before we expected. While getting out of the van in the parking lot he spotted an advertisement for the even on the Ontario Place bride. We down played it saying the sign said the 26th. Of course we couldn’t hind it any longer when he say the sign pictured above. He’s excitement was a wonder to see. I should mention that the Polar Express has been Jacob’s favourite move for the last 2 years. He watches it when ever he can, he acts out scenes and knows the words to all the song, if not the entire movie. Of course the movie came out in 2004 so he’s never had a opportunity to see it on the big screen. Last Christmas we look to see if a local theatre was playing it, but came up empty. I didn’t try this time, then Nana found it playing on the Cineshere’s Imax screen and we knew we had to go. And we weren’t disappointed. It was a great night, and seeing it on the big screen in 3D made it come alive for me in a new way. I’m hoping we can make it a yearly tradition.
It all started with a text message from Melissa ‘Daddy…. Jacob wants you to take him to the outdoor skating rink after dinner’. So after dinner Jacob and I head out for an evening of skating. I wish I had thought to bring our good camera, then perhaps I would have managed to get a better picture. Still the photo I chose captures the evening, and as an added bonus I took some video. I warn you I’m not a very good skater, so the video is a bit shaky.
Tonight Jingles watched as the family enjoyed an ice cream treat after dinner, and wanted one of his own. So When the kids come looking for him tomorrow they will see him sitting on the fridge with an ice cream cone. He even had sprinkles.
While I was putting together yesterday’s post about Violet’s first time on ice I realised I hadn’t posted the pictures from the local Santa Clause parade. So I thought I should start the week out right and post them. You see last Saturday morning the family headed out to the Lakeshore to watch the annual Santa Clues Parade. With the kids bundled up we ready to watch the parade.
Today Melissa and I headed out to square one to do some Christmas shopping. Shortly after we got there I sorta wished we had brought the kids… Well at least Jacob, because who did I see walking through Wal-Mart, none other than Jacob’s favorite character Mario. I had to take a picture to show Jacob who we saw. I hadn’t intended it to be the Picture of the day, but after a long day fighting the crowds in the malls I wasn’t up to taking another.
Before I wrap up for the night I thought I should say a few words about how much Jacob loves Mario. For the last 3 months or so he’s been obsessed with Mario 64 DS. He plays it all the time, and when he’s not playing it he watches video’s on YouTube of other people playing it. When we were shopping the other day he got so excited to see Mario and friend figurines. He would have love to take his picture with Mario today, that is if he could get past his fear of people dressed in kids character costumes.
Tomorrow morning the kids will wake up to meet a new friend. You see we have a new house guest, an Elf. I’m not sure what the name the kids will come up for him, but I think it’ll be exciting to find out. You see our little elf watches the kids and reports to Santa if they have been good or bad. Each day he will be in a different sport, for the kids to find. I think it’s safe to assume that he’ll be making an appearance in a number of my pictures of the day between now and Christmas. Thank you Nana and Papa for bring our little guest to our house tonight.
Today we have a picture of a house I passed on my way home from work. When I left work tonight it was quite dark so the lights on the different houses looked really festive. I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures.
Today the kinds sat down at the dinner table to write their letters to Santa. Jacob worked very hard on his letter. As always when I watch him write it just amazes me how good his penmanship is getting. There are a few backward e’s in there but every time I look he he’s skills seemed to improve by leaps and bounds. Little Violet really wanted to write Santa, but he’s not quite ready. So while Jacob worked on his letter Violet ‘coloured’ hers.
With the month of December upon us, it’s time to get ready for Christmas. On Saturday night I pulled out the tree hoping to have it up in the morning when the family came down for breakfast. Unfortunately morning came with the tree still in the box, but Violet wouldn’t have any of that and the two of use set it up so that it’d be ready for Melissa and Jacob when they came down. Now we just have to find a time for use to decorate it as a family. Between Melissa working, and sickness it looks like we’ll have to wait till weekend before we can add our ornaments to the tree. Of course every day Violet asks when we’ll decorate it, she is very excited by Christmas. And as a father it’s great to watch.
Today wasn’t much of a picture day, I spent most of it in bed trying to recover from a stomach virus. I did manage to capture this one of Violet and I trying to sleep. The virus hit Jacob on Saturday night. Today it hit me and my little girl. She threw up this afternoon at Nan’s house. Of course shortly after this picture was taken I was taking her to her bed and she threw up all over both of us. I’m just hoping Melissa doesn’t get hit with this bug, it’s really not fun.
