It’s been a long week, first the waiting, followed by the surgery and the finally the recovery. The surgery went well, no surprises. She was slow to drink after the surgery, but she did manage to drink, with the help of magic fairly wings. It was hard watching her lay in bed, obviously in pain, but not being able to help her, but she pulled through it and watching some of the other kids who had their tonsils out that morning, she handled it amazingly.
Watching her the last couple of nights she seems almost like her normal self, singing along with Sofia the First, then something happens she swallows and she feels the pain, and comes running to mommy or daddy for comforting. It’s hard to watch her go through it. She’s been refusing Tylenol more often than taking it, so there isn’t much more we can do for the pain. Except offer it when she’s in discomfort or perhaps some ice water or a frozen treat. Still each morning she wakes up more herself and ready to face the day.
Through all of this Jacob has been a great big brother, worrying about his little sister and helping out where he can. Of course he seems to me having a little bit of an asthma attack over the last few days, highlighting the failure of our asthma clinic to get back to us for an appointment since the summer. Of course now that Jacob’s getting sick Melissa called the patient advocacy office and we were contacted within a few hours by the clinic. The good thing was he still had puffers on file at the pharmacy so at least we can treat him till he can get to an appointment next week. We’re hopeful that we wont have a serious asthma attack any time soon, one trip to the hospital is enough for the holiday season.

On my way home I saw these Christmas lights, they looked pretty cool, but the one thing I can’t figure out is if they are supposed to be something…. What do you think?

I had intended to continue talking about the new look and feel of windows 8, but after Monday’s post on the Mobile Post on the City TV app. I thought I’d share the Windows 8 Rogers anyplace tv Metro app. You log in with your Rogers anyplace tv Account, which is tied to your Rogers Cable account and it gives you access to Movies and TV shows. The selection seems to be a subset of the shows available on the Rogers digital box. What I like about it is that you have access to lots of different shows in one place, even if it doesn’t include all the shows that I watch. Sure if we subscribed to the Movie Networks and HBO Canada I’d have a better selection, but as with the City TV app seems a good way to keep up with at least some of your favourite your favourite shows.
The question I have asked myself is do you need the app. Rogers already has a web site that gives access to all the content, perhaps it’s not as pretty, but you aren’t restricted to running as a full screen Metro App. Perhaps if I was using a windows tablet it would make more sense to use the app then the website.

Today was a family day, with lot’s of activities. First we had a mitten march with Violet’s preschool to the Lakeshore Santa Claus parade. We had Jacob’s hockey and we capped it off by Making cookies and getting our living room into the Christmas Spirit. Of course it was inspired partly by our little visitor who you can see in today’s bonus picture.
It seems that after 27 day’s of posting twice a day a little strep throat has brought me down. I had all the intentions of writing up my Windows Wednesday post yesterday. I even took most of the screenshots, but when it came down to writing up my thoughts I just couldn’t focus. So I ended up heading to bed before I finish writing up my post. This morning when I woke up I realized what had happened I was very disappointed in my self. For the entire day I’ve struggled with what to do, should I carry on as if nothing had happened, should I just skip today and start with my theme focused posts. As you can see by reading this, I decided to acknowledge my failure and explain to my readers what happened. Not to worry, next week I will be posting my Windows Wednesday post looking at some of the Metro Apps that ship with windows 8.
For now I think back over the first 27 days of this month with pride. I tried to post every day and I almost did it. There was some filler, but mostly well thought out posts. I just hope to be able to continue my writing in the coming months, just not quite as much of it.

Sunday a lazy day, a day for house work and relaxing. Today I wouldn’t have stayed in my pj’s all day if I didn’t have to run out to pick up a few necessities. It may have been a pajama day, but I did manage to get some stuff done around the house, and as you can see from today’s picture of the day Violet was all about helping. She started with the Vacuuming, and then wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came time to do the
It’s hard to believe that November is almost over. The people I know trying to write a for a novel are getting close to there 50,000 word count. I’m not sure what my word count has been like this month. I know most of my written posts have been over 250 words, and quite a few were more than 500, so I think so far I’ve been happy with my writing, though there have been entirely to many day’s where I was racing the clock to get both my picture of the day and written post done before the clock struck midnight. And at least once I had to fudge my written’s post time a little because I’d run out of day. Still I’m happy with what I’ve written. I’ve upped both my Fatherhood posts and my Geeky Posts. I’ve rebooted my weekly Mobile Posts and even added a weekly Windows post. Forcing myself to write about Fatherhood every Friday also feels right. I’ve managed to get out a letter to both my kids, something I’d been struggling with for months.
Programming is something that I’ve done since I was 6 years old. I do it at my job and and do it at home. Or at least I used to do it at home. Recently I’ve been having trouble turning a vision I have for an application into reality. I’ve been working on a personal task manager for the last 3 months, and beyond a very basic interface I haven’t been able to find the Time or the Drive to turn my idea’s into an application. I sit down in front of the computer with the intent to do some coding, but I just never seem to get to the actual coding. I find I will spend time working on my development environment, or working on how my source control is setup. One evening I even spent time coming up with a logo, but I just don’t seem to be coding.
My work coding hasn’t really been effected, most of our projects are past the development stage and mostly clean up and bug fixes, so my coding block hasn’t effected my work. Perhaps if I spent less time worrying about my blogging and more time thinking about my code I could work through it quicker. As much as I would like to do more coding I realize that it’s not worth giving up on my daily double of posts. Of course that’s only planned for another weeks, so maybe once November is done I ‘ll have a opertunity to do some more coding. Till then I should be happy that I’m finding a way to write everyday, and leaving the coding to another day.
