POD: Violet Turns 5

Today my little Angel turned 5. So in the morning we had a special birthday breakfast and opened a few of her gifts. Thanks Nan, Violet loves the Arts set and can’t wait to try the video game. Thanks Tom and Ange she loves the purse and is looking forward to wearing a tatoo to school tomorrow. After dinner Nana came over with some cupcakes and she opened her present from Nana and Papa. I can’t wait to see her in her new Doc McStuffins rain gear. I hope she had a great day, though I can’t help but be said that my baby girl is just a little more grown up. I love you Violet, and Happy Birthday.
Dear Violet on your 5th birthday

I wanted to write you regularly as your grew up. To mark big days in your life, but each time a day I want to mark with a letter comes the words don’t. That ends today. Today you turn 5. By baby girl is growing up. At times I can see the big girl shining through, at others you are still my baby girl who needs her daddy. I want you to know that I love you I will always love and though you grow up you will still be my baby girl.
POD: Early Morning Lego

This morning after getting ready for school Violet disappeared. I tracked her down in her room building a house with her Lego. So out came the camera and we have our picture of the day.
POD: Time to Plunder

For Christmas Nana and Papa got me Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag for the PS3, with all the problems I’ve had with my PS3s drive I thought it might make more sense to exchange it for the WiiU version. So this evening I headed out to EB Games and exchanged it. Now I can take advantage of the WiiU’s second screen functionality to play a game while Melissa watches TV.
Tech Tuesday: Kobo Touch

Sometimes you have start over, that’s what I’m going to do today. Last Christmas I got a Kobo Touch E-Reader, I had wanted to write a review of it for the first Monday of the new year, it never happened. For the entire year I would look at the draft post try and write it and never get it finished. In the beginning of December I sat down and pushed threw it, writing a few hundred words about it, but still never got it finished. So today I through it out and start over. I’m not even going to look back at what I had, this is a new review.
The Kobo Touch is a light weight and easy to use E-Book reader. It’s e-ink screen is easy to read. Over the last year I’ve used it almost daily. The device has limited physical buttons and ports. There is a Home button on the front, a power toggle on the top edge. The left edge has a small port for a Micro SD card (I’ve never found the need for one) and the bottom edge has the USB port for transferring books from a computer and charging. The back is a quilted and almost soft to touch. I remember when I first held it being surprised by how thin and light it was. Of course once it’s in it’s case it looses most of that.
Geek Musings: Writing

I want to write, I used to love to sit with a pen in my hand and spin tails of far away world’s and great adventures. Over the years the tails have dried up, but I still love to write. I’ve turned the pen in for a keyboard but I still love writing. This blog I exists because of that. I started it because I wanted to write about becoming a father. Of course if you look at it now it doesn’t look that way. Looking at it now Geek with Kids is a photo blog. A place to see the Picture of the Day. I find it a little strange how much this bothers me, it used to bother me when I’d go months between posts. Now there is a post each day, but I want more written content. Not just photos.
I thought about ending the picture of the day. As the new year dawned I took a long hard look at it, but in the end I love being able to go back to any day over the last 4 years and see a picture. It’s a great way to remember events. So it will continue. Though I’m still working out how I want to organize it. Last year I used a Picasa Web Album to keep them all together, but with Google moving more and more to Google Plus for Photos and the inability to embed Google Plus images outside of Google Plus, I’m looking for a new way to group them.
But what about my writing. I remember telling people I wanted to be a Programmer and a Writer. I’m sure I’ve written that here before too. So what am I doing to bring the writing back to Geek with kids. I could go into lots of plans as I do every so often when I get this writing bug. Or I can stop talking about it and just write. I remember reading an article by an author about being a writer (Don’t remember who the author was) he said if you want to be a writer you had to write. I don’t write everyday. I don’t think of the few lines I include with my Picture of the Day as writing. Sure sometimes I write some substance but most days, I just do a basic description and leave it at that. I want to write every day. I don’t know if I want to share everything I write on my blog. But I think it’s time that I stop thinking about being a writer and just do it. So now every morning I’m going to try to take 20 to 30 minutes to just write on what every comes into my mind. If I like it I’ll share it, if I don’t I’ll either delete it, or file it away for some future time. So stay tuned.
A Sweet Thought or Bribery?

Today I got to sleep in, and after a late night of Video games I really appreciated it. It reminded me that I have the best wife in the world. I finally was forced out of bed by the smell of delicious cooking. I came down to find this amazing brunch waiting for me. I’m beginning to think that there might be more to this morning the an amazing wife.
It seems that our cousin has some new-born Labs, and Melissa wants to get one. I’m on the fence, though I’ve always said the only dog I’d consider is a Lab. So….
