Today is remembrance day, a day to remember our fallen soldiers. So today I share a picture of a box of poppies. And ask that you take a moment to think about the freedoms we enjoy, and of the men and women who fight to keep us free.

It’s November for some a time to grow a moustache, or others it’s time to write a novel. I’ve always wanted to grow a mustache for Movember but that would mean shaving off my goatee, so that’s out of the question. So instead I’ve taken on the daunting task of writing 50,000 words in 30 days. A task I’ve tried to accomplish several times over the last 10 years. I’ve only succeeded once. Sure a few years I chose to blog every day instead of write a novel and that I have done successfully several times, but the novel has eluded me. So this year I’m back to noveling.
This evening while Violet was in her ballot class, Jacob and I headed to Starbucks to do a bit of writing. Jacob has been has decided to compete in the Youth NaNoWriMo, his goal is 2000 words, His It was fun sitting with Jacob writing, though it would have been better if Jacob had brought a keyboard, but I was really impressed with the 365 worlds he managed to write.

Today I thought I’d take some time to give a basic review of my Galaxy Note 3. I’ve been thinking about writing this review for a while, but I always got bogged down with history and which features I should write about. Today I set that all aside and write about the phone, and what I think about it.
That was the first thought I had in store when I was purchasing it. Put a case on it and it’s even bigger. So the question you have to ask yourself is do you want a big phone. For me the answer was yes, in fact I’ve been wanting a Galaxy Note since the first one ship three years ago. I got the Note 3 to replace my Nexus 7 that suffered an unfortunate accident. I didn’t want to relied on my tiny Lumia 520 as my only personal internet device. So I upgraded my phone to a Note 3 and went from carrying two devices to carrying one. So the size didn’t bother me.

Today the Hockey season began for both of our kids. I captured todays picture of the day while they waited for their games to start. I love that they will both be wearing number 5 jerseys this season. It also impressed me how excited they both were to be playing again. They both skated hard and were in on plays all game. I just hope the excitement continues all season. I’m interested to see how Jacob does next weekend between the pipes. He volunteered as soon as the coach asked. I’m not sure if he really wants to play goalie, or just wants to get it over with for the season.
My little man, each day you are less a boy and more a man. How much you have grown and changed. This has been a summer of new things for you and our family, I love how you embrace each one as they came along. As I look back on it now it seems like it’s been a year of changes. Some of them harder to understand then others, but you got through it. We got through it as a family.

For months I’ve known it was time to get a new computer, but it’s a hard thing to pick a computer. This week I finally pulled the trigger and got a new computer. Well work pulled the trigger, but I picked what it was aimed at. I considered a number of options for my computer, from laptops to touchscreen desktops. In the end I settled on a Lenovo K450E. I’ve set up a lot of Lenovos for clients recently and I’ve been impressed with the quality of the hardware and their customer support.

If you are a regular reader of Geek With Kids you might have noticed something different with the site. Last Friday I launched an updated look for GeekwithKids.com. With the new look i hope to bring a renewed focus in writing. I’m hesitant to talk about the changes I have planned Considering how many times I’ve written about new series of posts I’m starting that always seem to peetering out after a few posts. So all I will say today is that there should be more than just pictures of the day filling these pages in the coming weeks.

Today Jacob got a short chess lesson from my Dad. It’s the first of what we hope to be many lessons. Jacob really seems interested in learning to play chess and I’m so glad that my dad is able to teach him. I might have to keep an eye on these lessons, I might pick up a few pointers.
