This evening with Melissa out seeing her doctor about her injury (Broken Tail Bone) the kids and I were left to fend for ourselves for dinner and evening entertainment. So after we ate we cleaned out the living room, complete with Jacob vacuuming the carpet, before the kids headed upstairs to play for a bit. Around 7 I went up to see how they were doing and we ended up sitting around the little table in Jacob’s room building a house with his Lego an hour before bed. Once it was time for bed, the kids tidied up their rooms and I tucked them in for the night. It was strange how both went right to sleep, no complaints at all from my little Diva as I tucked her into her big girl bed. Leaving me with a little quiet time before Melissa got home.

Today after we got home from hockey while Violet had her unexpected afternoon nap, Jacob asked if we could pull out his Monopoly Junior. I was reluctant at first, there was a bunch of other things that I wanted to do this afternoon, but he was so excited by the prospect of playing that I couldn’t say no. So we played a game before dinner. Then after dinner Violet found the board game on the table where we had put it when we cleared the table for dinner and she wanted to play too. So after we ate I found myself sitting around the dinner table with my kids playing Monopoly . Junior. The most amazing thing about it was that Violet won.

Today Violet got her new bedroom set, So of course I had to use a picture of her new room as my picture of the day. I could write more, but I think I’ll let the bonus pictures show it off.
My Baby Girl, I know you don’t like me calling you that, you are as you say a big girl. Today we have more evidence supporting that too, today you get your big girl furniture. A new full size bed, a new dresser complete with your own mirror, even your very on bed side table. When we first decided that now was the time to move from your toddler bed, I resisted. I thought of it kept you in a smaller bed you’d stay my little girl longer. Of course that was silly but I’m sure you’ll find that parents sometimes do silly things. Of course when I thought about it I knew it’s probably time, after all Jacob was younger than you are when he moved up to his first big bed.
This fall you started pre-school, it’s your first taste of school. I loved how you walked right in on your first day, ready to face the new challenge head on. I’m thrilled that you love going each day and I want you to discover the joy of learning. Helping you make that discovery is one of my most important jobs as your father. You will never stop learning, at times it might be hard but learning new things is always worth it. So if you ever get stuck or have questions I will be here to help you find the answer.
I remember when you were just learning to walk you would come with me to watch Jacob’s skating lessons. When ever I took you out of the stroller to let you walk around, you would head right to the door of the rink. You wanted to skate with your big brother. This fall you started your lessons and you’re doing great. watching you skate around the ice with and without the sled is amazing. I can’t wait till the Ice Path opens so we can go skating as a family. I’m hoping that we can do a lot of family activities this winter from Skating to sledding, and maybe some snowball fights and snowman building as well.
The one thing about growing up is that when you are a kid it seems like it takes forever. You want to be able to do what your older brother does, only to hear that you can’t you’re to young. So you wish you were older, you try to be older. But you don’t have to try, every day you are getting older. everyday it shows in some small way, whether it’s being able to get your own glass of milk or getting your first grown up bed it will happen. And speaking as someone who’s grown up and is now watching you grow up it happens way to fast. Of course you wont appreciate that until you have children of your own who just want to grow up.
Always remember that I love you and will always be here for you no matter what.
Love Daddy

Tomorrow Violet get’s her big girl bed, and new bedroom furniture. So tonight we moved out some of the old furniture to make room for the new. Of course Violet wanted to help get her room ready. Of course I had my phone handy to snap a picture as she carried one of her drawer to her old dressers new home.

It’s Halloween so out comes the ghost and ghouls, or in our family’s case Iron Man and an Angel, to prowl around the streets looking for treats and performing tricks. Of course with the rain and cold, it wasn’t a great night to be out. But the kids loved it and I think Jacob was just thrilled to finally be able to ware his Iron Man costume. Violet looked so cute in her Angel costume, but it was a little long and hard for her to walk in.

While the wind howled outside, the kids and I pulled out the old Crazy forts and started to build. As always it seemed we ran out of pieces before we were finished our Castle. It was fun building with the kids again, I think we’ll have to bring out the Crazy forts more often.

Today we have a picture of Jacob and his Papa getting ready for hockey. It seemed like a very special moment, between Jacob and his Papa, that I had to capture it. I played with different effects, and settled on this highlighting of Jacob’s jersey One thing that struck me today watching Jacob play, is how much more focused he is on the ice (most of the time). There was a moment where he chased a player with the puck down have the rink and when he caught him and got the puck he showed so much improvement in his stick handling that I couldn’t help but be impressed. He didn’t even give up on the puck when he fell to the ice. From his knees he tried to get the puck to one of his team mates.
