Today was Jacob’s last day of Future Stars and the usual lesson was replaced with a practice game. It was fun to watch the kids skate around. At times Jacob trailed the play, but as you can see in the picture of the day, at other times he was right in the thick of things. In the photo he’s getting ready to take the face-off. I would love to say that he won he first face-off and sparked a breakaway goal… What I will say was he tried hard and it was fun to watch.
Today was Election day in Ontario and so our little family headed out to the local polling station to cast our votes. Today I snapped a picture of Melissa casting her vote with the kids looking on. Instilling the need to vote in our kids is something Melissa and I feel very strongly about, so sharing moments like these with the kids is very important. Listening to Melissa explain the parties to Jacob, the Blue, Red and Orange team was very amusing. She made it clear that we vote for the Orange or Red, never for the Blue. A point he made sure to come over and tell me while I cast my vote.
I know that over the past month I’ve used a lot of pictures of Jacob skating for my picture of the day. And today I am again, though to be honest it’s not the photo that I really want to share. It’s the video, it’s the first time that I’ve seen Jacob skate backwards. The whole lesson tonight was amazing to watch. He tried hard to keep up with the other skaters, and most of the time he did just that. It was great to watch, and as the class was ending and I saw him skating backwards I knew I needed to capture the moment.
Today we have another picture of one of Jacob’s worksheets. Watching him sitting at the table working away at them always makes me smile, and when I see how much better his writing and colouring has improved I know that we should be doing more worksheets. Just not sure if it should be every night or just a few times a week.
Today Jacob had his first game of House league Hockey. It’s a day we’ve been looking forward to since Jacob first took to the ice. It’s great to see how excited he gets going to the rink, and it’s not all for the snacks he gets after the games. Its amazing home much his skating has improved since he started future stars in September, I can’t imagine how much better he’ll be after an entire season of hockey. Next we have to get Violet out on the ice Maybe next week we can see about heading out to a free skate with her.
Today’s picture of the day is probably the earliest I’ve taken once since I started taking a picture every day. I took it last night while Jacob was in the ER, he was just falling asleep after they had taken some blood to run tests. They left the needle in, just in case they needed more blood or wanted to run an IV later. It turned out to be helpful because later the doctor wanted Jacob to take a steroid to help with his hives. Thanks to the IV we didn’t need to wake him try to make him take it. We spent the entire night in the ER, waiting for the pediatrician to have a look at him. When they arrived in the morning the Diagnosis was pretty quick. It seems he had a rare reaction to the antibiotics he was taking for an ear infection. It’s called Serum Sickness and it affects 1 in 10 million people, and though it could flare up again over the next few weeks, he is on the mend and should be making a full recovery.
Tonight we have a picture of the sign on the outside of the emergency room door, that Melissa, Jacob and I have spent the last couple of hours in. Our little guy has a hives/rash that nobody seems to know what is. So here we sit waiting to find out what to do to make it go away.
Today was my day for working from home, and while Jacob was at school I was working at the computer and Violet came up to me and gave me the cutest smile. I reached for my phone to try to capture it. It took a few dozen tries, but I finally got her to hold still so I could capture her smile.
Today after our morning Future Stars and a walk through the local street festival we returned home and Jacob did some homework. It’s amazing him to watch him work through both the language and number problems. His writing is getting so much better and it seems like every other day he’s picking up a new math skill.
Today was Jacob’s Future Stars skating, and after a bit of a rough start he had a great night of skating. He tried the entire time he was on the ice, listen to the instructors and just did great. Even after he got off the ice he was talking about getting back out there this weekend.
