As we were getting ready to head out for Christmas eve with family we heard a knock at our door. And who should be there but the big man himself. I tried to capture the moment. Jacob was amused by me taking another picture and Violet wouldn’t stand still. Of course to be fair that’s the closest she’s been to Santa this entire season, so that’s something. I’ve decided to use this as our Christmas Eve picture of the day for two reasons. The first is it’s a great picture and how often does the big man come to your door when you are awake. Second was it’ll be nice to not have to worry about it later and just enjoy Christmas Eve with the family. You can expect a separate post about the rest of the evening. Marry Christmas every one, I hope you can spend time with loved ones this Holiday Season.
Today the family braved the Eaton’s centre to finish up our Christmas shopping. Our picture today is of the kids taking a break and watching the traffic go by. While mommy looks for some clothes in the Roots store. The mall was crazy and the store that we probably wanted to go to the most was in the midst of a Clearance sale and was pretty much picked clean.
Today after dinner Jacob asked if we were going to the Ice Trail. So a quick call to Nana and Papa and off we went for a bit of an evening skate. I’m always amazed at how well Jacob does on the ice. Today he tried to teach me to go backwards. He broke it down into 2 steps. Step one you stand like this (He was standing more or less like in the picture) Step to you go the opposite way.
Today Jacob brought how the Joy bag. a collection of things to celebrate christmas. It was fun setting up the different pieces, the Nativity, wreath and even 4 candles. Then we read a book and Jacob wrote in the journal and drew a picture. It’s a great christmas tradition that he did last year and I hope he continues next year.
Yesterday the family headed out on an adventure we’ve planned for weeks. We went to see The Polar Express in 3D at the Ontario Place Cineshere. But it wasn’t just the Movie, it was also a PJ party that promised a meet and great with Santa , Art’s and Crafts plus Hot Chocolate. We told Jacob weeks ago that we’d be going on a special adventure with Nana and Papa on the 17th but we wouldn’t tell him where. So as they dressed in their special PJs and climbed into the van they were excited, but a little unsure.
Our little reader spotted our destination before we expected. While getting out of the van in the parking lot he spotted an advertisement for the even on the Ontario Place bride. We down played it saying the sign said the 26th. Of course we couldn’t hind it any longer when he say the sign pictured above. He’s excitement was a wonder to see. I should mention that the Polar Express has been Jacob’s favourite move for the last 2 years. He watches it when ever he can, he acts out scenes and knows the words to all the song, if not the entire movie. Of course the movie came out in 2004 so he’s never had a opportunity to see it on the big screen. Last Christmas we look to see if a local theatre was playing it, but came up empty. I didn’t try this time, then Nana found it playing on the Cineshere’s Imax screen and we knew we had to go. And we weren’t disappointed. It was a great night, and seeing it on the big screen in 3D made it come alive for me in a new way. I’m hoping we can make it a yearly tradition.
Today I picked up a new(to me) game for the PS3, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. I’ve wanted to play it sence I finished the second game. Of course when the kids saw me playing the wanted a turn. It was fun watching Jacob running around in the game, he’s still not to sure of the controls. Poor little Violet also wanted to try, but her little hands can’t really hold the controller. I snapped today’s picture of the day while she took her turn.
Today was Jacob’s school Christmas concert. It was great to watch them on stage with all the other Kindergardeners. They sang so well, and you don’t have to take my word for it watch the video:
Today I found Jingles in the kids bathroom brushing his teeth. It’s good to see our little elf thinking about oral care, specially with all the sweets that comes during the Christmas Season.
It all started with a text message from Melissa ‘Daddy…. Jacob wants you to take him to the outdoor skating rink after dinner’. So after dinner Jacob and I head out for an evening of skating. I wish I had thought to bring our good camera, then perhaps I would have managed to get a better picture. Still the photo I chose captures the evening, and as an added bonus I took some video. I warn you I’m not a very good skater, so the video is a bit shaky.
Tonight Jingles watched as the family enjoyed an ice cream treat after dinner, and wanted one of his own. So When the kids come looking for him tomorrow they will see him sitting on the fridge with an ice cream cone. He even had sprinkles.
