I had hoped to have a new hockey video to share with you but it’s not ready. So let’s look back at Jacob’s first Hockey video in anticipation of the new one I’m hoping to share soon.

Looking Back: Jacob’s first video
Today I look back to 3 years ago, and the first video I ever shared of Jacob:
Disappointment in the tree house
A few days ago for computer time Jacob and I decided it was time for a change so instead of the usual PBSkids.org or www.cbc.ca/kidscbc. I went to treehousetv.com. Tree House TV is a kids network that is mostly commercial free. So it seemed logical to go to their website with Jacob. We fired it up and went to the video section and looked over the different shows, what bothered me was before each clip was a 30 second commercials. It didn’t matter if it was a 5 minute clip, or a 60 second preview of the Christmas programs. It seems a little excessive.
I try to keep Jacob away from commercial, it’s bad enough that most shows are nothing more then glorified commercials, I don’t need to add to that with commercial television or excess commercials on the web. So though treehouse might be on the TV it wont be on the web again anytime soon. Though I think I’m going to have to find some more sites that Jacob and I could go to for our computer time.
The Santa Experience
On Saturday we dressed the kids up and headed to the local mall for half hour with Santa. He sings songs, reads stories and does magic tricks. It seems like a much better way for the kids to see Santa then waiting in line and getting 2 minutes posing for a picture. Jacob had a good time and did pretty well with the story time, though he did manage to get really close to Santa.
Of course when it was time to sit on Santa’s knee Jacob jumped right up and told Santa what he wanted for Christmas, but violet wasn’t having any of it:
All and all it was a great time
Going back to the Barber
Last week I got my hair cut, I don’t know if the hair dresser I end to was having a bad day or If I just wasn’t clear with him, but it was a crappy . But it was better then I had so I lived with it. Fast forward to Friday we took Jacob to a kids hair cutting place and they did a horrible Job. It was officially the week of bad haircuts, I’m just glad Violet doesn’t have hair so she was spared having a bad haircut.
With Christmas photos coming up we could just live with the bad hair cuts, so Saturday morning we looked around our neighbourhood for a simple men’s barbershop. We found 1, Philip & Frank’s Barber Shop. It’s just a little shop with a few chairs, and a couple of barbers. From the moment Jacob climbed up on the board placed a cross the arms of the chair the place brought back memories of my childhood trips to the barbershop.
He cut Jacob’s hair great and so I figured I might as well climb into the chair and get my cut fixed as well. It was great. The cut is perfect and it’s the little things that just make it great. He used a straight razor for the edges. I think I’ve found my barber, no more booking appointments or hair salons for me.
To Nap or not to Nap
Over the last little while we’ve been having some bedtime issues with Jacob. When he has his afternoon nap he doesn’t want to go to bed, sometimes it’s 10 or 11 before he finally goes down for the night. So you think get rid of his nap, but that’s easier said then done. Right now when Jacob doesn’t nap he becomes grumpy and acts out by 4, It’s even worse if you try to shorten his nap by waking him up.

If fact in the last six weeks I can trace all of Jacobs major melt downs, at home and in public to him being over tired. This isn’t a good thing. So the question is what is the solution? I’m thinking the only solution is taking the nap away and living through grumpy Jacob until he adjusts to a earlier bedtime and perhaps a slightly later wake up time. The question is when is best to deal with the Grumpy Jacob. I don’t think it’s fair to have Melissa dealing with it alone while I work and she is at home with the kids, but it will take longer then a weekend. So do we wait till I’m off around Christmas? But do we really want to have moody Jacob at all the different family occasions during that time? Any thoughts from the interweb?
The Santa Train
Today our little family headed out with extended family and friend to go for a ride on the Santa train. It was our first time and it was an enjoyable experience. We arrived early and the kids waited patiently for the train to arrive:
At last the Train arrive:
Unboxing my Christmas Tree
Pre-School
Today we met with the teachers at Jacob’s new preschool. He starts in January, with classes twice a week. There will be 11 students in the class. He really likes the school, while Melissa and I were talking with the teachers he came over to ask if after we could come back another time. Of course he didn’t want to leave the school, so I’m thinking we wont have a problem dropping him off come January.
Speaking of school, I thought I should hare what Jacob did the other day. Out of the blue he asked for crayons and how to spell Papa. He wanted to make a card for him. It’s was very sweet. Above is the final product. He had a little trouble with the C in is name, but he kept trying.
