Project 365-070: Standing Watch

There is something special the moment your kids first see you. There face light up and the smile and call your name. It happens most nights when I get home, but it always seems more exuberant when it happens outside. In a place where they might not expect to see you. It’s happened to me twice this week, the first at the bus stop near our house, I got off the bus and walked towards home, only to be stopped by Melissa calling me from the park. She and the kids where out to met me. It happened again today, though today it was at Islington station. I was meeting my mom with the kids so that she could head downtown for a meeting.  Hearing Jacob call out Daddy when he first saw me was priceless, thinking back on it now I wish I had thought to take a picture of it. Even Violet was all excited in the stroller as I walk up. These are the moments I cherish as a father.

Now about today’s picture, after meeting my mom and the kids at the subway  we took the long way home. It included a Subway, Train and Streetcar with trips to 3 playgrounds. It was a great spring evening. Though by the end it was getting a little cold. The photo is of Jacob while I was talking to him about coming in. Of course he was having too much fun playing with other children to want to come in the first time I called. But with a little coaxing and the help of one of the kids he came in for dinner without incident.

Project 365-069: Snack Time

Today was another day at home with the kids for me. During the day I capture this moment of Violet and Jacob sharing an apple. I really do enjoy my days with the kids, but sometimes it’s hard to get everything you want done. I can’t help but feel I had a better system when I used to stay home with Jacob. Now is that because I had got into routine with him or is it just wishful thinking. I’m hoping after a couple more weeks the 3 of us will find a way to make these days work better.

Project 365-065: A pole with Arms

Today is a very special day for Melissa and I. It’s Annaversy of our first date. So we had big plans for the day. Breakfast out with the kids, then heading out to for a day of family fun. Finally we planned on dropping the kids off with Nana and Papa and heading out to a movie. Well every thing seemed to go wrong at breakfast, with Jacob having a massive tantrum as we were leaving the restaurant. It looked like our family day was going to be ruined. But naps heal all things, and after an early nap he was his cheerful self and went headed out for our day.

Our picture is from the outing. Jacob is ‘hiding’ behind the pole. So we thought it was strange to see a pole with arms.

Project 365-053-055: Playing Catch-up

Today we have a bit of a departure from my usual 365 posts. Here are my photos for the last three days. I spent the last couple of days at the hospital with our oldest child as he was treated for an asthma attack. Due to being between working cell phones, for much of the last few days I was unable to connect to the internet.  So here they are each with their own write-up.

Project365-053

Taken our first night in the ER. It was the first of many treatments to get his Asthma under control. Around 11:30 we were told that they wanted to admit him. It wasn’t until 6pm the next day that we got into a room.

Our second night at the hospital, we’d finally got a room and the asthma was mostly under control. We were there primarily for monitoring. I tried to get a picture of the room, but I was using a cellphone camera and it didn’t turn out.

I took today’s picture when I returned to the hospital to take back the incorrect discharge and prescription that I was given when we left earlier in the afternoon. I took the picture of the ambulance in memory of how we got to the hospital the first night.

Project 365-050: Savings Account or Toy

A while back Melissa and I turned an old water bottle into a Change Jar. We try to put our loose change in there every night. We’re hoping to fill it up and use the money for something special for the family, like a trip. Recently Violet has found it and her new game is to put what ever she can find that fits down into the bottle. Last week I fished out the toy spoon she got with her dolls, plus assorted odds and ends. I could be upset but it’s not that big a whole and she’s shown great hand eye coordination to fit some of the things into it. Who needs a shape sorter when you have a water jug.

Project 365-048: From the Ice

IMG_2641Over the course of Jacobs skating lessons this year, I’ve strapped on my own skates three times, the first time was to see just how bad a skater I am. I hold my own, I haven’t fallen yet. The second was because Danny couldn’t make it and some one had to do it. Tonight was the third, I am getting better. I even got down on the ice to try and encourage Jacob to stand up on his own today. Since cameras are frowned on during the lessons it’s not always easy to get pictures. Today’s shot is of Danny talking to Jacob after he just stood up from the ice. Watching him try to stand is frustrating. He can do it all by himself,  he did it today. The problem is he doesn’t know he can, so whenever he has to stand he reaches out for help before trying himself. Once he tries first he should realize that he can do it. With only 2 more lessons I’m hoping he can pick it up before the end. I know we’re looking into the possibility of Jacob doing some skating in the summer but I’m not sure if we’re going to find any that works for us.

Project 365-044: Pigtails

IMG_2514

Well it took just under 13 months but Melissa has finally managed to give Violet pigtails. Not sure what inspired her to try this morning but she did and found that it worked. They are pretty small pigtails but I have to say they are cute. Though they represent something I don’t like admitting, My baby girl is growing up.

Project 365-042: Bundled Up

IMG_2472

Tonight while Melissa was off at work, I bundled up the kids and headed out for a little walk with my mom to shoppers to pick up some supplies for Jacob to take to pre-school tomorrow.  We’re putting together little Valentines packages for each of his class mates. While we were walking Jacob tried to push the stroller but it was to hard for him with his mitts on.  So he was content just holding on to the side.

Project 365-040: Medication

Project365-40-JacobmedsTonight we take a look at Jacobs Meds. Today Jacob started a third treatment for his double ear infections. It started a week and a half ago when he complained of ear pain, after a trip to the Kids Clinic (Project 365 Day 28). We followed up with a trip to the pediatrician last Wednesday to do a check for swimming and just to make sure it was healing, it wasn’t, he got a boost to the first round of Antibiotics and an ear drop. So today when he complained about his ear hurting we scheduled another visit to his doctor. Turns out that both ears have a perforated eardrum and now he’s on a another round of Antibiotic. I’m really hoping that this super strength drug does the trick and his ears can get better.
