Tonight Jacob and I were at nana and papa’s house. While there Jacob went for a swim, and I looked into an old computer to see if it could be fixed. I couldn’t help but snap a few shots of Jacob in the water

Today we spent the day at Hartlake Conservation Area. It was Melissa’s family picnic. I want to write more about the day but all that sunshine and good food has tuckered me out, so a real write up and some of the 300+ pictures will have to wait till tomorrow. What we have today is a picture that screams little boys and nature. It wasn’t the only frog caught today, but it is the only one I thought to photograph.

In an effort to limit our trips to the doctors we scheduled Violet’s 18 Month appointment and Jacob’s 4 year appointment for the same day. It sounded like a good plan, but with both kids getting needles and a full waiting room it didn’t turn out that great. I don’t think we’d do that again, and given there age differences I doubt we could. Both kids did great but with the long wait and the needles at the end we were glad to get out of there.
Today was Wednesday and that ment a trip to the ice rink for Jacob’s skating lesson. Today was the first time I didn’t feel chilly at the rink wearing my shorts and T-shirt. In fact it felt great to get out of the heat into the chilly arena. I was trying to get a picture of Violet watching her brother skate. After all when ever we’re at skating and Jacob is on the ice Violet is trying to get out there, it doesn’t mater that she doesn’t have skates, it’s where she wants to be. Perhaps this fall it’ll be time to fit her for skates.
Today while Melissa and I slept our children went on an adventure with there Nana and Papa. It’s an adventure we tried to do last summer with them but the evil forces of traffic prevent use from accomplishing it. It was a trip to Marineland, ever since last summer Jacob has wanted to go, he can sing the entire theme song. I’m glad that our little ones got to go and that they had a fun time with nana and papa, but I’m also a little sad that I didn’t get to take them. Of course there will be other adventures to other places that I will share with them as the grow up.
Today we finally found time to head out to the theaters to watch Toy Story 3. They way it work out it was a boys afternoon at the theatre, with Melissa and Violet heading off to the Gym. Jacob was very excited to see Toy Story 3 and it was hard to get him to pose for a picture in front of the theatre.
The movie it’s was great, I’m not sure if it’s better or worse than the original or the first sequel, but it was a great way to come back to the story. If anything the problem was to many interesting characters that we couldn’t really get to know any of the new toys. On a more somber thought, seeing the Toys locked in the toy-box desperately trying to have Andy play with them again was a sad reminder of the loss of innocence all kids go through as they grow up. I found myself wondering if when Jacob is ready to go off to college if he’d have any of his childhood toys. Maybe his Woody or Buzz. Perhaps Coco will last through the years.
Back in the spring my Mom and Jacob planted a bunch of Sunflowers. They started in little pots in her window before being transplanted into our little garden. I pretty much ignored them, but the other day I did some weeding and noticed there growing buds. It amazed me that it went from bud to flower in less than 3 days. I’m really looking forward to when the other 2 plants start to bloom.
Today was Melissa’s Birthday and for once Melissa didn’t need to go to work so we spent it as a family. We had a nice bike ride and picnic.
For my evening workout Jacob climbed into the trailer and I hoped on my bike and away we went. When we started I wasn’t sure where we were going, I just knew I wanted to ride for at least 30 minutes, and Jacob wanted to go to a park to eat his skittles.
In my head I had 2 choices, East or West. East would have taken us to Sunnyside and the dinosaur park or perhaps the Castle park in High Park. West was to Marie Curtis Park, where we went on Sunday, or perhaps a little further. We ended up going west stopping at little splash pad and playground near Douglas Kennedy Park. It was further then we went on Sunday but a place Melissa and I used to ride to before we had kids and shelved our bikes.
It was a good ride, though at times I found pulling the extra weight of Jacob and the trailer challenging. I only wish we had more time, there was a few baseball games that we passed that it might have been fun to sit and watch. I’m looking forward to our weekend rides as a family, there are lots of places to stop and have picnics or just to run around.
The ride as a workout was great, the entire trip there and back (minus the time in the playground) was about an hour. We traveled 16.14, and averaged 15 km an hour. It felt good to get out there. I’m really looking forward to future rides. I’m thinking it might be worth looking into spinning classes at the gym.
Our Picture today is from the park we stopped at, it was a little spinning seat that Jacob climbed up onto (with my help) and I spun it. Unfortunately it seemed to pick up speed and before I could get a great picture Jacob was falling off.
