POD: Snuggle up and Read Update

DSC_0185

Today I decided to take a some time and write about Jacob’s reading. Each week Melissa and I look forward to looking into his school bag on Friday afternoon and seeing what books Jacob and his teacher have chosen for that week. This week when we pulled out the books we were surprised by how advanced they were. It seems he’s reading is growing by leaps and bounds. I’m so proud of my little guy.

POD: Jacob’s wishlist

Ever since Jacob got the Playmobil school for Christmas Jacob’s really interested in all things Playmobil. It goes beyond just playing with them, he often browses the Playmobil and Mastermind Toys (A local toy store that has a large select of Playmobil).  A while back I suggested that he make a list of which ones he wanted, he plans on giving the list to his Nana so she knows which to get him for his birthday. So day after day he’d sit at the computer looking over the different sets trying to decide. For a while I thought he’d given up on the list, but yesterday morning he announced that he was done his list. I looked it over, and a part from a few minor mistakes I was surprised at how much his writing has improved. I guess it’s time to come up with another writing project.

POD: Half-Marathon Day (2:10:32)

FamilyRacePhot

Today was the big day, today was the day I run my first Half-Marathon. While training for this run I read an article that said after you finish your first Half-Marathon you will either decided it’s not for you or you’ll get hocked. Well I’m officially hooked. My time today was 2 hours and 10 minutes and 32 seconds. That beat my personal goal of 2:15, though it has me thinking of changing my time-table for running a full marathon. When I came to the part of the course where you could either keep going straight for the half, or turn right for the full marathon, part of me was tempted to take the  turn. I wouldn’t have, but I had always planned on running a full next September (2012), now I’m wondering if I might not want to run it this September (2011).  I’m sure reason will set in and I’ll settle for trying to beat 2 hours on the half this fall, but I have to admit I’m tempted by the full 42.2km.

POD: First Juices box

IMG_20110508_134419

Today was mothers day, so because Jacob said that you have orange juices on Mothers Day we picked some up. So during our Mothers day brunch I poured Violet a glass of watered down juice. It’s the first time we’ve given her juice, so we were curious to see how she’d react: ‘Yucky’ was her response before pushing away the cup. So at Nana’s house when Jacob came outside with a Kool-Aid Aid Juice box we let her try it., thinking she wouldn’t like it. Of course Kool-Aid isn’t orange Juice and she seemed to really like it, though she didn’t finish it.

POD: Big Girl Bed

Today was quite a day and as always seems to happen on days where I have the perfect picture of the day, I end the day with 2 or 3 pictures that I would be more than happy to use as my picture of the day. Usually I choose one and share the other as bonus pictures. Today it’s a little different. No bonus pictures. I’m planning to use the other pictures in a general post in the coming week, so stay tuned. Now back to today’s picture of the day. For the last couple of months we’ve been planning on moving Violet from her crib to a toddler bed. Today we made the move. One concern was how well she’d be able to fall asleep when she was free to get up and when ever she wanted. Today that wasn’t an issue. For her afternoon nap and for her bed time, she climbed right in curled up with her turtle pillow and fell asleep.
