November wad National Novel Writing Month. A challenge to write 50000 words in 30 days. It’s a challenge I took on hoping to complete it and well I failed. I’m not proud of it, but it’s the truth. I thought I cod find an hour or two each day to write, but as the month started it quickly became clear that I didn’t have the drive to succeed. First I couldn’t write the novel I had planned to. I tried but the words weren’t there. So a week in to November I had just over 1000 words and no story to tell. I drifted about trying different perspectives on my tail. Trying to find one that would inspire me. Finally I did., I rebooted the story as a journal told by the hero. It worked I found the words, well almost found them. I found them at my weekly escapes to Starbucks with Melissa. While sitting there drinking coffee and spending some time with Melissa the words flowed. When I tried at night, while sitting at my computer at home they didn’t. So as the month ended I found I had only wrote close to 25,000 words.
My writing wasn’t the only thing I let slide while I tried to write. One was my blog and the other is my personal programming project. I hope to put them both right in December. As of today, I’m going to blog everyday. Not just my Picture of the Day, a real post. Something longer. Something interesting. To help motivate me I’ve once again joined Holidailies. I’m still working out how I’ll fit in all this extra blogging, but I’m confident I can do it. As for my programming project, it’s something I’ve been working on now for over a year in its current form. Though at its heart it’s something I’ve been working on for much longer than that. I’m not ready to talk about it, but I hope to use one of my December posts to introduce it to the world.
Only time will tell if I’m successful with these new goals, already I’m falling a little short of what I envisioned for this post, but December is a long month I hope by the end of it to be into the swing of real blog writing again. So stay tuned.
Today while shopping I captured these pictures of Violet. At first she wasn’t to impressed with daddy and his camera, but I got her smiling.
Today the tree came out of storage. Both kids were excited to hear that we were going to bring out the tree today. I can’t wait to see their faces tomorrow morning when they see it up. Of course I still have to straighten out all the branches and decorate it, but it’s a start.
Today Jacob and I went with Violet to Ballet class. One great thing about her new studio, Innovative Rhythm Dance, is that they have a screen were you can watch the classes. Jacob was thrilled to be able to watch Violet’s class. Of course he probably wouldn’t have been if he hadn’t forgotten his 3DS.
Today after dinner we headed to the mall. While there the kids found this board for posing. Violet was right in there wanting me to take her picture. Jacob took some convincing.
Today when we went to the mail box we found the an envelope with the first card of the season. So I thought that I’d spread the cheer by using it as my Picture of the day. Thanks Ed and Rosemary,
Today our family headed to the Scotiabank Theatre for a sneak peek of the new Disney movie Frozen. The kids were so excited. They spent the entire subway ride looking at the ticket. The strangest part of the evening was that they searched bags and took all cell phones before we entered the theatre. The movie itself was great. One of the best Disney movies ever. There was also a fun Mickey Mouse short before the movie that was pretty funny
Today we had a visitor for the afternoon. Ben came to visit. so Melissa and I thought it would be fun if the kids built Ginger Bread Houses. It was fun trying to build the little houses, and the watching the kids stick candy on them.
Today we have a picture from Jacob’s early hockey game. He’s game was at 7:45 and I’m so proud of how hard he tried.
Friday I work from home, in an effort to get the day off to a productive start I headed to a local coffee shop where I took today’s picture of the day. It almost worked too.
