Tonight our dinner was to be Grill cheese and soup. The grill cheese turned out just fine, but the soup not so much. It was a Knorr Cream of Broccoli, usually a really nice soup. The problem tonight was that while cooking it I let it burn. So though it looked good it tasted bad. I should have just BBQed something, I’m much better at cooking over an open flame.

Project 365-025: Violet’s One Year Appointment
Today was Violet’s one year appointment at the doctors. It included to shots. It’s the first time she’s take them in her arms. The doctor thinks she’s growing just fine. Though she’s slowed a little. Today she came in at 19lbs and around 29.5 Inches long. We’re a little worried that our little cupcake may be allergic to Peanuts, she has had some reactions after getting into Jacob’s Peanut Butter Sandwiches. The doctor is sending her for tests to be sure but prescribed an epinephrine injection, just in case. And of course Peanut Butter is still bannedd from our house. All and all our little angel is doing well and growing up just to fast…

Project 365-024: A Show and Dinner
Today was a day for Melissa and I to relax and enjoy one of our Christmas presents. Tickets to Rent and a gift card to Bâton Rouge. The show was at 1, and it was great. It’s the second time Melissa and I have got tickets for Rent. The first time was the Canadian Tour of Rent and though we enjoyed it some of the casting didn’t work for us. This time it was the Rent The Broadway Tour, with a number of actors who did the show on Broadway, including to of the original cast. It was a much better show.
Dinner afterwords was great, a great cap to a great afternoon and worked out to be a great way to relax after all the hard work we had putting together Violet’s birthday. Of course going to a show like that makes us wish we could get out to more of them. We’re hoping to make getting out to the theatre more then a bi-yearly event. Currently there are 3 shows we really want to come back to Toronto so that we can see them, Wicked, Les Misérables and Avenue Q.
Project 365-023: Violet’s Party
Today we celebrated Violets birthday with friends and family. Throughout the day I took a ton of pictures but when I sat down to choose one for my Project 365 shot it was this moment after the party when Jacob was pulling Violet in his wagon that I thought captured the day for me. There is a number of things that I like about this picture. The joy in Jacobs face as he pulls around his little sister is priceless but the biggest is that he got that wagon for his first birthday. I remember pulling him around on that day and how much fun he had. Now it was his turn.
Cloud Gazing: posterous
Tonight my readers will get an extra post, I think. I’m sitting here at my computer working on my Project 365 Post and got distracted by the blogging service posterous. Its a simple blog engine that allows you to post from email. I signed up for an account when I first learned of the service. Wanting to get address mrj.posterous.com. I used it a few times but it never stuck. When I started my blog Geek With Kids I registered the domain geekwithkids.posterous.com as well, but until today I’ve never posted to it. There are two reasons I don’t think I’ve ever used this service. The fist is I like my posts being on my blog. Why should I have half a dozen different blogs spattered around the net? Second I usually don’t like posting my first draft of my entries, and a first draft is all I ever get on my phone’s keyboard.
So you are wondering what brings me to posterous today then, well it’s the ability to have it automatically repost you posts. So I send my entry to posterous and it then sends it to what ever other services I want. This seemed intriguing to me so I wanted to see how it worked. I thought about doing just a basic Test post. In-fact I had written it before thinking why not turn it into a review.
Posterous has the most basic sign up of any site I’ve ever used, you just email it. Send an email to post@posterous.com it sets up an address based on your email account and away you go. From then on you can post to that blog from that email address. You can use it without anymore setup. Of course if you want a different address or to add some advanced features then you need to Set a password using the link in the return email they send you. In less than 5 minutes anyone can have a blog that they can update from anywhere with just email.
Now the advanced feature I’m writing about to-day is the Autopost. The ability to take you posterous post and send them to other service. There are a bunch of supported services. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr are just a few. I’ve configured my account for just twitter and my blog to see what it will do. So now here is where my post will get a little strange. I’m going to post this review and then either edit the result or post a follow-up, after seeing posterous’s autopost functionality works. So stay tuned.
Project 365-022: Artistic Works
When Jacob started Pre-School at the beginning of the month, I new he’d be doing a lot of art projects at school. Today the first batch was sent home. It’s amazing the amount of stuff he’s done in such a short time. Its interesting to see how different some of it is. What’s more when I asked Jacob about it he describe how he did some of them, I could get which day each piece was done but he clearly remembered doing them.
Project 365-021: Computer Time
Tonight I captured Jacob as he sat at my desk doing computer time. He was very excited to to play Caillou on PBSKids.org. He’s still a little unsure with the mouse, but he tries. Most of the time I control the mouse to where he points to. I’m thinking I’m going to have to work on his mouse skills, but to help with that I’m going to pick up a kids mouse. Something better suited for his small hands.
Project 365-020: Let them eat Cake
Today was Violet’s first birthday. We’re doing a bit of a party on Saturday, but wanted to do something to recognize the day, so we picked up a cake and a few close family came over and we celebrated. Violet loved her first cake. She reached right for it and grabbed a handful of icing. It was nice laid back evening, though I still can’t believe my little girl is one.
Dear Violet: Your First Year
Today marks a pretty big milestone for you my little princess, you are 1. Its been 4 months since I wrote you a letter and now like then you are going through some big changes. You are on the verge of walking, starting to try and climb stairs and learning to drink from a cup, both sippy and regular. It’s quite a lot for a little girl to handle. On top of that Mommy is going to start working again soon. So you’re going to be seeing less of her. She still loves you and will be there for you.
As I write this, I think back to the past year. About how much you have grown in just 12 short months. Last night I peeked into your crib while you were sleeping, You looked so peaceful. Watching you grow is amazing, you are like your brother in so many was, but also so different. Seeing you point at things and try to sign is what being a parent is all about.
I want to talk to you about walking. It’s not that hard or scary and you will love how much faster you are able to get around. You just need to stop worrying about falling and go for it. I watch as you move around the room holding on to different things. Every once and a while you look out away from the supports and think about taking a step, but then you sit down and crawl to what ever caught your attention. You just need to try to walk. I know you can, you have taken a few steps for both Mommy and me, so keep trying you’ll get it soon. A quick note about the stairs. I know when you see mommy or me walk up them you want to follow. I’ve seen you try, but they can be tricky. So if you want to learn, make sure Mommy or me are there with you when you try?
I just want you to remember that I’ll always be here for you.
Love Daddy
