A couple of weeks ago I’d doing some computer work for a friend, I posted a picture of their busted laptop at the time. Because of the quirkiness of technology I ended up swapping my labour and a monitor, for a new monitor they had purchased that wouldn’t work right with their laptop. It’s worked out great, we’re both happy. The strange thing is native resolution of the new monitor is 1600 x 900. My old monitor and my current second monitor run at 1280 x 1024. So I’ve lost 124 pixels vertically and gained 320 horizontally, what’s surprised me is the times that I’ve missed the 124 pixels. It seems that the extra horizontal space ends up being waisted. Of course the wide screen is great for watching movies, and I’m sure I’ll get used to the shorter screen.
Today was Jacobs first official day of kindergarten. To celebrate Melissa and I (mostly Melissa) made Jacob a Schultüte. It was a big hit with our little guy. Violet was really interested it, but she’ll have to wait 3 years before she can get her own.
I’m writing this letter to you while you are off at your first day of Kindergarten. I was lucky enough to be working from home today, so that I could walk you to school with Mommy and Violet. It has been a very special day, you spent all morning excited to be heading off to school. As I sit here writing this, I wonder how your day is going. Are you listening to the teacher? Are you behaving? Did you enjoy your snack? Are you making new friends?
I know that school can be fun, but it can also be hard. I had my difficulties with school over the years and I want you to know that no matter what problems you have you can come to your mother and me. We’ll work together to make it better. I want you to succeed Jacob and I know with some hard work you will.

You’ll soon be starting your fall Swimming and Skating lessons. I’m sure you are going to do great at swimming. It was amazing to watch how much more comfortable you became in the water over the summer. Watching you in nana’s pool was great. As long as you keep working at it and listen to your teacher I’m sure we’ll be signing you up for Pre-school 3 in January. The skating is going to be a little more difficult. You’ll be starting to ware hockey equipment, not all at once, but every few weeks we’ll be giving you more of the equipment to ware, so that in the new year you can start a hockey skills class.

At times I can’t be believe you are 4 and now that you are going to school it just seems unreal. It feels like yesterday that I was standing in the NICU watching as they hooked you up to the machines to make sure that you were going to be all right. The years have gone by so fast. There are times when I want them to slow down, to let me catch my breath, but I guess that’s not really an option. So I’ll be here for you, to pick you up when you fall and nudge you back on track when you stray.
Most of all Jacob I want you to remember that I’ll always be here for you.
Love Daddy
Today I seemed to take a lot of pictures, which makes choosing which to use for my photo. After going through them all I settled on this of the two walking down a ramp on the way over to my mom’s place to see her and her sister. It seems cute and a little mischievous to me, like these two might be getting into trouble one of these days. With all my pictures I didn’t get a good one of the My Mom, Aunt and the kids. Perhaps tomorrow I can try again.
Today my picture is once again of the kids. I took in on a trip with just me and them to the supermarket. We were picking up a few needed things, like Milk and Diapers. It can be a challenge going places with the just me and the two of them, though today was pretty good. Except for Jacob wanting to get cookies and yogurt drinks. Plus by the time we were wrapping up our shopping Violet didn’t want to stay in the cart, she wanted to walk and run. Usually away from Jacob and me. Of course with all the challenges, its moments like these that I really enjoy as a father.
Today was Jacobs First day of kindergarten, though not a normal day. Today was part of the staggered start they use for kids just starting at school, only 5 of the 25 other students from his class was there today. Next Monday will be his second first day, on that day he will have his full class and mommy and daddy wont be going into the classroom to make sure everything is ok. I’ll be writing more about our little guys starting of school in the coming days, but for now deadlines at work are monopolizing my evening.

I took my picture of the day as I was walking to the subway near my work. It seemed an odd sight. A kids wagon, locked up like a bike. It’s just not something that I’d seen before, so I snapped a picture. Of course as I think about it now I realize that it makes sence. After all you might not want to bring your wagon inside, so why not lock them up. I wonder if I should start bringing my bicycle lock with me when I take the kids to local stores in the wagon?
