Today before bed Violet was playing out side. It seemed like a good time to try again to revive a game I used to play with Jacob. The old Troll under the bridge game, she runs across the bridge and I try to grab her. Jacob used to love playing it, Violet hasn’t gotten into it. Usually she says ‘I’m the Baby bad troll’ when I would say ‘I’m the Big Bad Troll!”. Though today, with the prompting of the other kids out in the playground she got into it, running and giggling across the bridge.
Today was a strange day for our little family. The men of the house were both sick, so Melissa took Violet out to the park. While there she snapped this picture and I thought it’d make a great picture of the day.
Today our picture of the day is from poor little Jacob, who a weekend of treats got the better of. Of course he wasn’t the only person feeling under the weather. I think my 2:45 run in the hot sun in the morning, might have been to much for me too.
Today Jacob’s friend Liam celebrated his 5th Birthday. Liam was born a mere 2 days before Jacob and it got me thinking, where has the time gone. In just 5 short days Jacob will be 5. It seems like yesterday that I was looking at him through the side of the incubator in the NICU.
Today was my work from home day so I got to pick up Jacob from school. On the way back Melissa, who was home sick, took this picture of me walking with the kids.
Todays picture is of my growing collection of Running Hats. In the center you have my first hat, that I got when I completed my first 5k. On the right is one I picked up for the 10k run. On the left we have one that Danny got me for my birthday. It’s odd it took me almost a year to get my first running hat and in the last 6 weeks I’ve gotten 3.

Regular readers of my blog will notice a few changes today. I’ve added a Looking back section and new dynamic header. Plus rearranged some of the additional information you see on my site. Though on the surfaced the changes are minor, I have also made a number of changes under the hood, so please let me know if something looks off or isn’t working properly.
I have been planning the update for over two months and had wanted to launch it at the beginning of May to honor the number of personal milestones I had that week. Unfortunately between my responsibilities at home and at work plus training for my first Half-Marathon I never got everything I wanted done. So instead of waiting another month while I try to finish all the changes I had planned, I decided to launch with what I have and just update it as I complete the additional work.
I am not sure how long the rest of the changes I intend to make will take, June is a busy month for our family with 4 days a week of T-Ball for Jacob, but it will be coming. I plan on starting by finishing the code that generates the Header and Looking Back images. I want them to change less frequently probably either hourly or daily. I’m also working on a system for managing the images that are used flor the header graphic, so that its simple to add more. Depending how it turns out I hope to make it available as either a standalone app or a WordPress plugin.
I hope this is the first of many changes this summer that will make Geek with Kids a better blog to read, so stay tuned.
Today after Jacob’s school Melissa took the kids to the local splash pad for some water fun. It was still a little cold for Jacob, but Violet couldn’t get enough. The only problem I have is that I was at work and missed the outing. At least Melissa captured these pictures.
Today was practice day for Jacob and his Alderwood T-Ball team. It was great to watch . Well it was a practice day, but it was great to watch him out there running the bases and swing the bat. Violet had a great time too, chasing after Jacob and trying to take part in the practice. Our picture today is of Jacob enjoying his snack after a great day of T-Ball.
