POD: Emergancy Hair Cut

From Pictures of the Day 2012

As you saw yesterday my little ones decided to play hair dress. So last night Jacob had a trip to the Papa Barber shop. Today it was Violet’s turn. Mommy took her down to the local hair salon. After a little convincing she sat in the chair and held still while the hair dresser did what she could with what was there.

Cloud Gazing: Pic Monkey – College Maker

Last week for my Mobile Monday post I shared a Collage app for Android today I thought I’d share an online Collage application.  Of course PicMonkey is a lot more than a Collage maker. It’s a full online photo editor, something I’ve been looking for since Google shutdown picnic in the spring. I have used Pic Monkey before, but it’s lake of integration with any of my online storage services has kept it from becoming a regular part of my work flow. It’s still a very powerful application with one of the best Collage options I’ve ever worked with. I do want to do a full review of PicMonkey, but I haven’t had time to really look into all the features, and I want to do  that before I review the.

POD: Unscheduled Haircuts

From Pictures of the Day 2012

Today our little ones reminded us, that when they are playing together and it get’s two quiet it might not be a good thing. You see they decided to play hair dresser with real scissors. They took turns cutting each others hair, I’m not sure who thought of the ‘game’ but they took turns cutting each others hair. Of course the cuts to Violet’s hair were more shocking than the few to Jacobs, but both kids had hair that was close to the scalp. Limiting our options for fixing it. For Jacob we got Papa to give him a buzz cut, for Violet Melissa did a bit to make it look a little better, but we’ll be taking her to a hair salon to see if they can fix it. You can expect to see another picture of Violet’s hair tomorrow.

Mobile Monday: BATTERY WIDGET? REBORN!

Today I thought I’d share an app I’ve been using for a couple of months that I use to keep track of my battery.  Batter Widget? Reborn provides a window into the inner working of your phone’s battery. It’s primary feature is to provide a circular battery status. Beyond that it includes also includes a usually fairly accurate time remaining plus provides a very good interface to see Android’s battery stats.  There are 2 sides to the app, the quick view that are provided by the Widget and Notification Area,  and then the detailed view in the application itself.

POD: Putting Violet to work

From Pictures of the Day 2012

Sunday a lazy day, a day for house work and relaxing. Today I wouldn’t have stayed in my pj’s all day if I didn’t have to run out to pick up a few necessities. It may have been a pajama day, but I did manage to get some stuff done around the house, and as you can see from today’s picture of the day Violet was all about helping. She started with the Vacuuming, and then wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came time to do the

Is it time to begin winding down?

It’s hard to believe that November is almost over. The people I know trying to write a for a novel are getting close to there 50,000 word count. I’m not sure what my word count has been like this month. I know most of my written posts have been over 250 words, and quite a few were more than 500, so I think so far I’ve been happy with my writing, though there have been entirely to many day’s where I was racing the clock to get both my picture of the day and written post done before the clock struck midnight. And at least once I had to fudge my written’s post time a little because I’d run out of day. Still I’m happy with what I’ve written. I’ve upped both my Fatherhood posts and my Geeky Posts. I’ve rebooted my weekly Mobile Posts and even added a weekly Windows post. Forcing myself to write about Fatherhood every Friday also feels right. I’ve managed to get out a letter to both my kids, something I’d been struggling with for months.

Coding Block

Programming is something that I’ve done since I was 6 years old. I do it at my job and and do it at home. Or at least I used to do it at home. Recently I’ve been having trouble turning a vision I have for an application into reality. I’ve been working on a personal task manager for the last 3 months, and beyond a very basic interface I haven’t been able to find the Time or the Drive to turn my idea’s into an application. I sit down in front of the computer with the intent to do some coding, but I just never seem to get to the actual coding. I find I  will spend time working on my development environment, or working on how my source control is setup. One evening I even spent time coming up with a logo, but I just don’t seem to be coding.

My work coding hasn’t really been effected, most of our projects are past the development stage and mostly clean up and bug fixes, so my coding block hasn’t effected my work. Perhaps if I spent less time worrying about my blogging and more time thinking about my code I could work through it quicker. As much as I would like to do more coding I realize that it’s not worth giving up on my daily double of posts. Of course that’s only planned for another weeks, so maybe once November is done I ‘ll have a opertunity to do some more coding. Till then I should be happy that I’m finding a way to write everyday, and leaving the coding to another day.

POD: Boys and the Video games

From Pictures of the Day 2012

Today while Melissa and Violet were at our friend Susanne’s baby show,, Jacob had a friend over for a Video Game party. We were hoping to have more than one friend over, but that didn’t work out. What I’m happy to say is that Jacob and his friend Jordan seemed to have a great time playing Wii and 3ds together. I even got in to some of the video game fun. I’m looking forward to the next day of Video Game fun.

Fatherhood Friday: Growing up

Today we take Violet to see her ENT doctor for the finial check up before her surgery next month. I have tried to write about the coming surgery on and off all day. I wanted to write about how we decided that this is the right choice for our little girl, about how the thought of her going under general anesthetic for the first time makes me nervous, and how I was dealing with it. Now I’m not sure why I couldn’t find the words, perhaps as I get closer to the day I’ll find the words. Or perhaps I’ll find myself sitting down in the waiting room right a post about it.

What has been going through my mind all day is something Melissa posted on Facebook last night. It seems Kindergarten registration for violet begins in January. It seems so strange that my little first is starting full day kindergarten in less than a year. Her fourth birthday is less than 2 months away. I can’t help but wonder where my baby girl is going. For months she would complain when I call her my Baby girl, of course the complaints disappear when she wants daddy to carry her.  Of course then I look at Jacob, who’s all exited by the prospect of having a few friends over for a Video Game party tomorrow while Mommy and Violet are at a baby shower. My baby boy has grown into a big boy.

It’s strange how it goes in spurts, for a while they stay tiny not seeming to grow and then you blink and they are running around, then taking and then they are off to school. Watching Jacob now, it seems to have  slowed a bit, but you can see how his tastes are changing. From his love of Mario to his growing love of all thing super hero, still there are days I miss my little baby sleeping in my arms. Of course the one thing as a parent I can’t change is that my kids will grow up, all I can do is be there for them and let them know that I love them with all my heart.
