When Backups Fail

Stack of Harddrives

Recently I have found myself thinking about why I started to blog. What did I hope to accomplish by writing in such a public way. My First blog was called Michael’s Thoughts. I started it to write about becoming a father. At least that’s what I think it was. You see I don’t have my original blog online anywhere anymore. I hosted it on a domain I no longer have. When I took it down I’m sure I backed it up, but over the last few weeks I have been looking for the files and I can’t find them.

I have gone through a couple of computers and a few different hard drives since I took my old blog down. And while I have found the sites supporting files, I can’t seem to find a backup of the data file. I know there was one, I remember thinking about setting up a site to see my old posts. Even looked at the SQL files, but I never took the time and now the files are lost. They don’t seem to be in the multiple directories of backups I have on my desktop, or my server. Are the stuck on one of the Hard drives I have attached to my spotty external drive enclosure? or in the stack of hard drives I’ve got stuck on a shelf in the store room.

Or have I just not looked hard enough, it’s so easy to get distracted while going through old files. Last night is a perfect example. While looking for the backup I found my T directory. It contains all my old Turing programs. I tried to run one of the compiled apps, windows promptly informed me that application didn’t run in this version of windows.

POD: Bier Sampler

From Picture of the Day 2013

Tonight I headed out to the Bier Market for a birthday dinner and beer sampling with Danny. I’ve been looking forward to heading to the Bier Market ever since it opened, and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. The Food was delicious and the beer selection was mind boggling. We tried 8 different beers, and though I could probably list them all I think I’ll just list a couple of the more memorable ones. The first I will give a shout out to was Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, it was full of flavour without being to sweet. The second was Grimbergen Dubbel Abbey Ale and La Trappe Quadrupel Trappist Ale round out my top three of the night. I think I’ll have to plan another visit to the Bier Market soon.

POD: Birthday Fun

From Picture of the Day 2013

Today I turned 36 and I had a great day, from breakfast in bed to an afternoon ballgame with my boy and capped off with a fabulous dinner and cake with the family.   It seemed I have to many pictures to choose from. So I could do my usual and put together a collage of all the pictures, but I think the picture of Jacob enjoying the ball game is a better choice. He wasn’t even supposed to be at the game today, my friend Tom had invited me but couldn’t go at the last-minute. I was glad to spend the afternoon with my boy. Of course the one person missing for our little celebration was Violet. She spent the day with her aunt Suzanne at the zoo. It was a great day.

POD: Evening Ice Cream with Jacob

From Picture of the Day 2013

This evening Violet headed out for a sleep over at Aunty Suzanne’s so Melissa, Jacob and I headed to McDs for a late night Ice Cream. While there I thought it would be nice to get a picture of Just me and my Boy. I should have asked Melissa to take the picture, but instead I used the front facing camera.

POD: Jacob’s night time friends

From Picture of the Day 2013

Tonight Jacob reminded me for all the growing up he’s done, he’s still a little boy. Shortly after I had tucked him in for the night, while I was listening to Violet tell me a bed time story, I heard him climb out of his bed. He came into Violet’s room and told me he couldn’t sleep because he didn’t have Coco. I told him to go back to bed, and I would find Coco once Violet was done her story. Violet’s story went on a little longer then I expected and when I finally went to Jacob’s room to find his stuffed friend, I found him already asleep with both Coco and Jeffrey. I just had to get a picture of my little man and his stuffed friends.
