Tonight after work I spent some time with Jacob building his Mega Zords. It’s the first time I’ve really sat down with him to look at all his new Zords. I am shocked by how complicated they are. I love seeing how excited he gets as he shows me the many different combinations they make. He always seems to have one or more in his hands. Even tonight I told him he could play outside while I did some work on Melissa’s bike, he brought out his newest Zords to play with. I couldn’t help but take picture of him on the planter playing.
One of the pleasures I get as a father is reading to my kids before bed. Sure there are some nights that I just don’t feel up to it, but I try to read to them as much as I can. Lately Violet has been asking to hear Puff the Magic Dragon or Green Eggs and Ham. Tonight I decided that I wanted something more, so I went into the kids book closet looking for something longer. I chose the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and both kids didn’t want the reading to end. Two things stood out about tonight’s reading activities, the first was how cute it was to watch Jacob read to Violet while hunted up a book to read. The second hit me as I was putting the book down for the night, I haven’t read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In the years that this was a book I would read, I didn’t read and some how I never went back to read it. What I’m not sure is if after the first, or second chapter if it was me or the kids that wanted to continue.
Today when I was sitting down to post my picture of the day it occurred to me that I haven’t shared a picture of one of Jacob’s presents that stood out for me. It’s a skateboard that his cousin Diana had made for him. It’s still missing wheels, but he loves it. He loves that it has a Power Ranger and his initials.
Today Jacob rode his bike over to Nana and Papa’s, and while Melissa, Violet and I met up with friends to see Monsters University (Jacob will be going on Wednesday with his class) he was learning to ride his bike with out training wheels. I captured today’s picture of the day when I went to get him at the end of the day. My little guy is doing so well. I’m so proud of him.
Today I woke up to a special treat. Melissa decided to make french toast for me and the kids. It’d been a while since I’d enjoyed french toast and I have to say Melissa really knows how to make a good french toast.

Today I worked from home and Violet surprised me while I was working away with her toothbrush and toothpaste. It seems the new TV Kids App I’d installed on the IPad had a song for the kids to brush their teeth too and she wanted to try. I was impressed at how well she setup on the table, and that her first thought wasn’t to take Melissa IPad to the bathroom.
Today Violet headed off to her last day of pre-school. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by.
Yesterday I used a picture of the KFC Double Down as my picture of the day. Today I thought I’d use something I made for myself. This is the burger I made for myself this afternoon. What you’re seeing is a 5oz paddy from European Meats with cheddar cheese, grilled mushrooms and onions, with lettuce and pickles.
Today I did something I have wanted to do for years. Today I had a Double Down from KFC. Of course this years sandwich is spicy and I’m not the biggest fan of spicy chicken from KFC, but it was still an impressive sandwich. Though I did find the Chicken “bun” to be a little hot to hold when I first unwrapped it.
Tonight after reading a story to the kids and tucking them in for the night I headed outside to enjoy a beer in the cool evening air. Tonight’s section was a Mill Street Cobblestone Stout. It was night sitting outside enjoying my beer and just letting the day unwind.
